Hospitals and medical supply in Uruguay

Hardly a topic is more important, if the emigration is to become a success and not a health lotterie.
In Uruguay there, completely similarly as in Germany, is dual a system in the attendance of patients. On the side there are the public hospitals there, and on the other side the private ones.

The public hospitals are in Uruguay 100 % free of charge and make possible so also for the poor social classes a medical supply. The personnel is very well trained, and theoretically everything would be present, in order to supply the population in the best way. Unfortunately it is missing at money, like that that the waiting periods is very long here however always, and it frequently at reasonable medicines is missing. Who the possibility has should better a private hospital occur.

The private hospitals in Uruguay finance themselves, i.e. live directly on the monthly contributions of the insured ones. Contrary to Germany here however fortunately no health insurance company system is inserted, so that the contributions are lower around a multiple. The monthly contribution is for instance with 30 U$S. With me it lies accurately with 910 pesos of Uruguay in the month.

Who sews itself straight during the illness or an accident not in its hospital finds, can go naturally also into every other hospital. However one is shifted in such a case as fast as possible again into the insuring hospital. Mostly however the large hospital chains have addresses everywhere in the country, so that the own hospital lies mostly not very far away. In each case however the proximity from the domicile should play a along-crucial role to the next hospital with the choice of the hospital chain.

In order to keep low the basic costs, with most hospital attendance a part of the costs specially are charged for. That holds itself however after my experiences always very within limits and is to it around "continuous guests" to other Hobbies to be also help there. Thus I recently paid about 8 U$S for a radiograph specially. Who must however with a serious illness in the hospital, nothing extra needs to pay.

Personally we are insured in the hospital Evangelico, and to today good experiences made.
With the birth of my daughter e.g. we felt very well waived. We here already saw different hospitals, which on us always a good impression, from which, made view of a layman. We were already for an inoculation in the public hospital, and also there predominantly friendly faces and nice physicians saw. However was not in Montevideo, but on the country. I could be said in the reference to public hospitals the difference am there somewhat larger.

All in all I would say that I do not see myself rather better medically secured in Uruguay by any means, more badly, but, and I am glad to be able to insure my family and me "private". Who can finally state in Germany still from itself?

Faithfully,
Wolfgang
